As I sat with one beautiful birthing mama, in my role as a birth doula, silently pouring water down her back as she labored her baby down and her partner softly kissing her temples, I was struck by the intimacy, the palpable sensuality, of the moment. It was one of those defining “A HA!” moments of life. The deep connection between birth and sexuality was instantly and profoundly visible to me. I knew in that moment, that to help women find their voice in birth, I had to help them find their sexual voice. The intensity of labor is not the time to find that voice. The pleasure, intimacy, and vulnerability in the safety of her own sexual relationship, with herself and her partner, is where she can find that power, that voice, that her body and her choices are her own, in her birth, and her life.
I started my journey supporting mothers first as a volunteer. I had joined La Leche League when my first baby was just 6 days old, and found so much love and support there that I became a leader and have supported and educated countless mothers in their breastfeeding relationship. Then I started teaching new mamas about babywearing, keeping their babies close while making their everyday tasks easier. I fell in love with birth and its process with my first pregnancy, and went on to have 3 beautiful births of my own. After my third child was born, at home, in the water, into my hands, I knew I wanted to support other women in their incredible journeys. I trained as a doula, and have had the privilege of supporting many mothers in their birthing time, both in the hospital and at home. In all of these roles I was constantly educating women about their choices, rights, listening to their body, their instincts, what feels right for them. In the labor room I saw women lose their voice, their choice, their power. I spent many nights awake wondering how I could make a difference in this birth world. I realized that I couldn’t change modern maternity from the inside. What I can do, is help women find their own voice, their own power
Since I was a teen, I have been “that” friend. The one you can bring any question, any story, and I help find answers, celebrate story without judgment, and support you in your journey and exploration. As a leader in my community, educating and supporting women, I often found myself in the same role. I am the one who gets all the sex questions. As a sex coach and educator, I make it my life’s passion to bring this support, accurate information, and encouragement to women and their partners. My workshops are designed to help you find and walk the path to celebrating your own sexuality, the connection with your body, and the connection with your partner. One on one coaching is available for those who want to dive deeper, those who want personalized support in reconnecting with or awakening their sexuality. We will work together to find your path and I will be with you every step of the way.
